Berkeley Township located in Ocean County, New Jersey, has a total area of 55.8 square miles. It is home to the infamous Crystal Lake in Blairstown, which became the setting for the 1980's thrasher movie, Friday the 13th. Another feature of Berkeley Township is The Royal Pines Hotel which was opened by Lt. Edward Farrow in the 1920's. The Royal Pines was built to spark tourism but became a commodity among the bootleggers who used the tunnels under the hotel to transport whiskey during prohibition. It is rumored that Al Capone was among those that utilized The Royal Pines hidden passages. The hotel has since, become a part of Berkeley Township's historical heritage.
