• What is a REALTOR?  Not all real estate agents are REALTORS®.  If the Company you choose to work for is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, then you must become a member too.   Coldwell Banker Riviera Realty, Inc. is a proud and actieve member of the National Association of REALTORS®, the New Jersey Association of REALTORS®, the Ocean County Board of REALTORS® and the Monmouth County Association of REALTORS®. 

• Real Estate License Requirement?    As a new licensee you will need to obtain a New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson's License.  Licensing requirements are regulated by the NJ Real Estate Commission.  To be eligible for the license you must be at lease 18 years of age, have a high school education or equivalency, complete a 75 hour pre-licensure course at a licensed school and you must pass a written license examination.  In addition, the Real Estate Commission "Must be satisfied as to the applicants's honesty, trustworthiness, characte and integrity."  The license fee is $160.00 for a two-year license.  Disabled veterans may be eligible for waivers of education requirement.   

• How do I become Licensed?  Licensing beginnings with enrollment in a pre-lisensure course.  There are many real estate license schools to choose from.  We recommend you choose one that has been well established. 

• What are the Start-Up Costs?  Start-up costs vary from company to company.  There are however some basic costs which are generally always absorbed by the agent.  We refer to those as industry costs.  Examples of industry costs include license fees, those professional organizations where membership may be required to engage in the real estate business, such as memberships in REALTOR® associations, and participation in Multiple Listing Services.  To view the basic industry start-up costs for 2011, click here.
